ENJohanniskirche (St. John's Church) is named after John the Baptist and was built in 1725 by Italian architect Giovanni Ghezzi. It was finished in only a half year and opened in a ceremonial act on October 20, 1725. The building is the successor of an older church which had to be broken down in 1675 due to dilapidation. A first church is known to have been in the place as early as 811, and in pre-christian times before that the site was a pagan place of sacrifice.
The construction year 1725 is displayed in Roman digits (MDCCXXV) in a Latin text carved into sandstone above the entrance door. The full text is:
CAROLUS HASSORUM PRINCEPS CELSISSIMUS AEDEM HANO IUSSIT SULTUS SUPPEDITANDO STRUI RITE DEO CULTUS SACER UT PRAESTETUR IN ILLA ET VERBO PASCI GREX PIUS INDE QUEAT: COMMUNI OBSEQUIO SUNT HINC FUNDAMINA LACTA EXSTRUCTA AEDILIS DEXTERITATE DOMUS DESUPER ADSPIRANS DIVINI FLAMINIS AURA COELESTI COETUM DUCE FIDEQUE BEET: MDCCXXV
In a more cryptical way, the year 1725 is again displayed in a sandstone text in German on the back side of the church:
STEH LESER; STEH UND LAS DIR DAS ZUR NACHRICHT SAGEN; WENN DU MICH ETWAN SOLST UM MEINEN MEISTER FRAGEN; MICH BAUTE GHEZZI FLEIS IN EINEM HALBEN JAHR A

The highlighted characters, taken as Roman digits and added together, again result in 1725.

Kirchengemeinde,
CAROLUS HASSORUM PRINCEPS CELSISSIMUS AEDEM HANO IUSSIT SULTUS SUPPEDITANDO STRUI RITE DEO CULTUS SACER UT PRAESTETUR IN ILLA ET VERBO PASCI GREX PIUS INDE QUEAT: COMMUNI OBSEQUIO SUNT HINC FUNDAMINA LACTA EXSTRUCTA AEDILIS DEXTERITATE DOMUS DESUPER ADSPIRANS DIVINI FLAMINIS AURA COELESTI COETUM DUCE FIDEQUE BEET: MDCCXXV

VVAR.
