In Quincy, within a rotary with Hancock Street and Coddington Street, is the United Parish Church (Unitarian).

The church is easily visible in downtown Quincy, across the street from the Quincy City Hall.

The church structure is made of grey Quincy granite. The front has a porch supported by four columns. Several steps lead up to the front entrance. Above and slightly behind the porch is the bell tower that includes a clock. The bell tower rang on the hour while I was there. The bell tower is a cylindrical feature that has many columns and the bell inside is easily visible.

The First Parish Church was first established in 1635 as a branch of the Boston church - then a Puritan congregation. In 1640, Braintree was established, which included Quincy and the church became its own parish. Since 1750, the church has been Unitarian, which split from the Congregational Church. The edifice currently standing was built in 1828, and designed by Alexander Parris. It is the fourth structure of the congregation (including time before the Unitarian congregation). There is a nice picture of the auditorium inside. There are long pews with doors, making them more like box seats. There is a narrow balcony as well.

In the basement are the tombs of two U.S. Presidents and First Ladies: John and Abigail Adams and John Quincy and Louisa Catherine.

Tours are available daily, April through November. Hours are different - see the web site for specific times.
