The Regional District of Central Kootenay Fire Service consists of 17 Volunteer Fire Departments. Of which Tarrys Vol. Fire Dept. is a part.

They have the following equipment:

2007 International 7400 4x4 / Fort Garry pump
1999 Freightliner FL80 / Hub pump
1983 GMC 7000 / King tanker
1992 Chevrolet 3500 light rescue

Tarrys Fire Department has just added a new Jaws of Life and a 2011 Dodge 3500 4x4 extended cab retrofitted to become the new rescue vehicle for the area.

All Regional District Central Kootenay (RDCK) fire departments are staffed by members of their communities on a volunteer basis, 24 hours a day, and 365 days a year. In addition to providing fire protection, RDCK firefighters are well known for their strong contribution to specialty services such as auto extrication, first responder program, swift water /still water rescue, slope evacuation and technical rope rescue.

It takes a team, a total of 315 well trained and qualified individuals to provide this wide and varied fire and emergency protection services.

The volunteer firefighters are first responders in the event of many emergency and non-emergency incidents, not just fires. They respond to medical emergencies, teach fire prevention and fire safety in their area and operate an urban search and rescue deployment. They are always ready to assist other local fire departments and first responders in the events of forest fires, disasters: human or natural, and as need arise. All firefighters whether volunteer or paid are a valuable part of any community.

These men and women also participate in the annual Christmas Toy Drive, and are a proud part of local and regional parades and other festivals.
