Kaiser Peak is the high point of the Kaiser Wilderness in the Sierra National Forest, located near Huntington Lake just outside Fresno, California. While not as high as other peaks in the Sierra, the view from the top makes it worth the trip. On a clear day you can see the gondolas at Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort to the east and the Coast Ranges 150 miles to the west. The easiest access to the summit is along the Kaiser Loop Trail. Starting at Deer Creek Trailhead/D&F Pack Station, the hike to the top is an 11 mile out and back on a maintained trail. Easily done as a day hike. Other options include starting at Billy Creek Campground to the west which is a 14 mile point to point hike ending at the Deer Creek Trailhead. A more adventurous hike starts at George Lake to the east along the Potter Pass Trail. Either way the hike is considered strenuous and for experienced hikers. However, as I climbed it was apparent that a diverse group of people tackle this peak.
No permits are required for day use within the Wilderness, overnight camping requires a permit available by contacting the High Sierra Ranger District Ranger Office in Prather, CA at (559) 855-5360. More information is available at the Kaiser Wilderness webpage
