The K & S was the Kaslo and Slocan Railway, which ran through what was known as
The Silvery Slocan, a valley which produced great quantities of silver at the turn of the twentieth century. The valley runs generally east and west between New Denver, on Slocan Lake, in the west and Kaslo, on Kootenay Lake, in the east.
The trail runs along Sandon Road, from Highway 31, generally southeast to the Ghost Town of
Sandon. Sandon, not totally deserted, has a
Museum and several artefacts remaining from its heyday, including a steam locomotive and mining machinery.
