Built in 1935, by the local Mt Vernon Mills Company, the theater included a side door to the balcony. Historically significant and embarrassing, many old theaters had "The Black Entrance," and/or a segregated balcony, which was usually serviced by a separate box office.
The architectural firm was Robert and Company architects of Atlanta, GA. The styling is most definitely Art Deco but simple and understated.
It was sometimes used for local and visiting live events including Hank Williams.
Owned by a non-profit organization since 2009, attempts are being made to raise funds to reopen as a performing arts and gathering place.
