This is one of several Dpartment of Evnironmental Conservation (DEC) campgrounds in the Adirondack high peaks region. It has several camping loops, some with water access, others landlocked. It also has some island campsites complete with boat launch to access them.
We choose this campsite for a weekend, even though it's a bit remote, specifically for the sand beach, in order to keep the kids happy, but we didn't have much time to use it after spending the whole day hiking and sightseeing in Lake Placid.
If we had more time, I would love to have walked through the Six Nations Museum, which is almost across the road from the entrance to the campgrounds. Remote, yes, but plenty to do right there, if you aren't interested in visiting those Adirondack resort towns!
