In Natick's western part of town is Dell Park Cemetery. In the "New Dell" portion of the cemetery is a gravestone with several names on it, including Helen W. Wilson who lived from 1901 - 2003: almost covering the entire 20th century.
The cemetery is located on the north side of Pond Street. From Natick Center, travel to the intersection of Pond Street and Cemetery Street - the cemetery immediately ahead and to the right is "Old Dell." Travel on. The next entrance, to "New Dell," which is geographically separate from Old Dell, is across the street from St. Patrick's Cemetery. Turn here, and then take the next left. The gravestone will be on the left, beyond the grove of trees, near the road.
The stone is a family stone with three names on it:
William S. Wilson
1903 [Masonic Symbol] 1961
Helen W. Wilson
1901 - 2003
Dorothy H. Wilson
1939 - 2013
Helen W. Wilson is William S. Wilson's wife, and Dorothy is their daughter.
No information could be found about either Helen W. Wilson or William S. Wilson. I did find info about their daughter. They lived in Natick. Dorothy graduated from Natick High School and was active in the Order of Eastern Star (an organization related to Freemasonry).
The 20th century was an exciting time. A few things that happened in 1901:
- oil was discovered in Texas
- William McKinley was innaugurated for his 2nd term as U.S. President, then shot in September, causing Teddy Roosevelt to be innaugurated.
- Butch Cassidy & Sundance Kid rob train of $40,000 at Wagner Montana
2003
-Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrates on reentry.
-New Hampshire's famous Old Man of the Mountain collapses.
-The Spirit Rover is launched, beginning NASA's Mars Exploration Rover mission.
Of course, in between there were incredible events such as two World Wars, the invention of the computer, the cell phone, and all sorts of recording devices (for example, phonograph, CD, DVD).
