Los Indios is a unique border town because the Free Trade International Bridge which connects Los Indios with Matamoros, Mexico is the only crossing in the United States that "transmigrantes" are allowed to use. Transmigrantes (named for the visa given them by Mexican officials) are those taking cargo overland through Mexico to Central America, as opposed to cargo that has Mexico as its final destination. Most of this cargo destined for Central America is in the form of used vehicles. (
