This scenic overlook is located along I-95 Northbound at Mile Marker 252. It has a great view of Mount Katahdin with Salmon Stream Lake in the foreground. Mount Katahdin, located in Baxter State Park, is Maine's tallest mountain and is a popular tourist attraction. The overlook is a good place to take a quick break. There are picnic tables, but no restrooms. The overlook is named after Maine Highway Pioneer, A.J. "Allie" Cole. There is a plaque set in a boulder near the edge of the parking area. The plaque reads:
This Scenic Overlook Named In Memory Of
Maine Highway Pioneer
A.J. "Allie" Cole
In 1917 Allie Began Horse Drawn Mail, Freight And
Passenger Service Between Enfield And Burlington,
Maine. By The 1920's He Hauled Freight In Motor
Trucks North To Houlton.
Harassed By The Severe Snows And Lack Of Public
Plowing Above Lincoln, Allie Had To Abandon The

His Own Plow Crews At Silver Ridge (20 Miles North-
East). In 1935 The State Took Over Allie's Winter
Plowing To Northern Maine.
