This plaque is located by a dawn redwood tree near the Assembly Area at Willamette National Cemetery. As part of the bicentennial observance, this plaque was placed by the Veterans Administration in 1976 in honor of America's Medal of Honor recipients. When the tree was dedicated, the local Veterans Administration units held a ceremony here.
There are four Medal of Honor recipients interred at Willamette National Cemetery - their graves are a few feet away from this spot, at the upper entry to the Assembly Area. The text of the marker reads:
THIS TREE DEDICATED BY THE VETERANS ADMINISTRATION IN 1976 TO AMERICA'S MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENTS WHO HELPED MAKE THIS BICENTENNIAL OBSERVANCE POSSIBLE "BY GALLANTRY ABOVE AND BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY"
