This station, a NGS standard vertical control mark, is located in Easton, CT. It is set horizontally in the side of a large rock outcrop at the north edge and above Maple Road, just west from the junction of Rock House Road.
The NGS description is as follows:
DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1985
3.2 KM (2.0 MI) SW FROM UPPER STEPNEY.
1.9 KM (1.2 MI) SOUTHWEST ALONG STATE HIGHWAY 59 FROM THE JUNCTION OF
STATE HIGHWAY 25 IN UPPER STEPNEY, THENCE 1.3 KM (0.8 MI) SOUTHWEST
ALONG MAPLE ROAD TO THE MARK ON THE RIGHT, AT THE JUNCTION OF ROCK
HOUSE ROAD, 4.2 METERS (14.0 FT) NORTH OF THE CENTER OF MAPLE ROAD,
24.6 METERS (81.0 FT) WEST OF THE EXTENDED CENTER OF ROCK HOUSE ROAD,
21.6 METERS (71.0 FT) WEST OF POWER POLE 177.
THE MARK IS 0.91 METERS N FROM A WITNESS POST
THE MARK IS 1.5 M ABOVE MAPLE ROAD.
The rock outcrop is huge. If it is not obscured by brush and weeds, it is pretty hard to miss. Scale the bank to get to the mark, and watch for poison ivy.
