Mary passed away on January 22nd of 1901 at the age of 42. She was the wife of Thomas Green and a native of Cornwall. Thomas Green, once an engineer at the Hope mine, took out a timber claim on the South Boulder River near the old setting of Wyman's saw-mill. He took up 320 acres of land and in 1899 began hauling cord wood to Granite, which is now a ghost town not far from Philipsburg.
Mary's obelisk shaped zinc headstone is about five feet in height with decorative plaques on all four sides and an urn atop. Parts of the double base and the upper section are done to emulate rough stone. The whole rests upon a granite plinth.
The Philipsburg Cemetery was begun around 1870, shortly after the time the town was registered, and to date has about 3,700 interments. It is the resting place of a good many miners and prospectors from the area who died as a result of falls, explosions and other mishaps in the mining industry, in both the 19th and 20th centuries.
