Etzikom will be found approximately 20 km. east of Foremost on Highway 61. Though it is one of the majority of communities which have lost all their old grain elevators, it does have one newer one, just west of town.
We have noticed a few of this style of steel welcome sign in southern Alberta. Possibly there's a travelling sign maker somewhere who makes and sells them to the towns. They're made of flat steel, either laser or torch cut, and welded together within a steel frame. This sign depicts not elevators, but some of the old and some of the new; there is, in the sign, a cow and barn and a farmer handling a hay bale, symbolizing cattle raising, a windmill, symbolizing the old, and a four wheel drive tractor, symbolizing the new. And, of course, in the bottom left corner are heads of wheat, symbolic of the area in general.
The sign indicates that Etzikom was established in 1915. Indicative of how small the town really is, they were able to list all of the 2014 high school grads on one line of the sign - Jamie, Cole and Joey.
