Badlands National Park is located in southwestern South Dakota. The name Badlands comes from the Lakota Indian's “Mako Sica,” meaning “land bad.”
Here you will find over 244,000 acres of sharply eroded buttes, pinnacles, spires and grass land. This land has been so ruthlessly ravaged by wind and water that it has become a colorful, picturesque wonderland for hiking, climbing and exploring.
