This is a new fire station located on the edge of town, the
former station was located in same building as the city offices.
The dedication plaque for the fireman memorial reads as follows:
John 15:13
"Greater love has no one than this,
that he lay down his life for his friends"
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Capt. Robert "Bobby" Heminger and
Capt. Kenneth "Kenny" Woitalewicz
WE HONOR
THEIR BRAVERY.....
THEIR LIVES.....
AND THEIR DEDICATION TO FIREFIGHTING
In the early morning hours of Saturday, February 14, 2004, Bob Heminger and
fellow firefighter Kenny Woitalewicz responded to a house fire where an elderly
woman was trapped inside. Both firefighters entered the home hoping to
rescue the victim when a poorly constructed roof load with ice collapsed on
them, trapping them underneath the rubble. Captain Bobby Heminger dies the
next day from his injuries and Captain Kenny Woitalewicz succumbed to his
injuries two days later.
Both of these wonderful men gave the ultimate sacrifice in firefighting and
each left behind a wife and two young children. They will always be
remembered by their families, friends, and community-
"Gone...But Not Forgotten"
