Kammarstenen
Kammarstenen (Swedish, Chamber-stone) is an erratic boulder in Södermanland. It was carried here by the Weichselian glaciation for 20 000 years ago. You can clearly see in the area that it has been formed by the glacier. Around the erratic you can see several smaller boulders and on some of them you can see glacial striations. Nearby there is an esker and a couple of kilometers away you can find Swedens only natural bridge. The erratic is made out of several cracks big enough too climb in. Kammarstenen is one of Swedens largest erratic boulders, and is most likely the largest one in Södermanland.
Erratic boulder
An erratic boulder is a piece of rock that differs from the size and type of rock native to the area in which it rests. "Erratics" take their name from the Latin word errare, and are carried by glacial ice, often over distances of hundreds of kilometres. Erratics can range in size from pebbles to large boulders such as Big Rock (15,000 tonnes or 17,000 short tons) in Alberta.
Glacier
A glacier is a persistent body of dense ice that is constantly moving under its own weight; it forms where the accumulation of snow exceeds its ablation (melting and sublimation) over many years, often centuries. Glaciers slowly deform and flow due to stresses induced by their weight, creating crevasses, seracs, and other distinguishing features. They also abrade rock and debris from their substrate to create landforms such as cirques and moraines. Glaciers form only on land and are distinct from the much thinner sea ice and lake ice that form on the surface of bodies of water.
