When first opened, it served white children in first to eighth grades. In 1936 it became a school for black children until its closing in 1952.
November 1952 it was purchased by W.R. Summerhill, a descendant of one of the three original school trustees, and sat empty until it was donated to the city of Oak Grove in 2004.
An exceptional amount of documentation from the school has been maintained: teachers' record books, antique desks, chalkboard and stove.
Oak Grove School was relocated to War Memorial Park and restored in 2008. Those interested in touring the school should call 270-439-5675.
