In Plattsburgh, by a tall obelisk, is this 'interstate' marker for the MacDonough Monument.
The marker is located across the street from Plattsburgh City Hall, and is along City Hall Plaza. The obelisk is prominently visible from the road. Park along it. The sign is located near the base.
The sign is very similar to other New York markers, but this one is a little different. The yellow border around the sign has the following text:
"N.Y. - VT.
Interstate Commission
MacDonough Monument
Erected to commemorate the victory of Commodore MacDonough
The Battle of Plattsburgh
1964"
The MacDonough Monument is a 135 ft tall obelisk made of sandstone. There are relief designs on all four sides, and the names of four of his fleet of warships is on the side, as well. On certain occasions, the monument can be entered and stairs ascended to get a view above. Commodore MacDonough was the leader in the War of 1812 Battle of Plattsburgh.
