In Wilmington, on top of Whiteface Mountain, is this sign orienting you to the high peaks of the Adirondack Mountains that you can see from the summit.
Whiteface is north of lake Placid, and is the fifth highest peak in the Adirondacks. One way to access the peak is to drive on the autoroad from the north - New York Route 431/Veterans Memorial Highway is the road. You will need to pay a toll (varies according to number of people in the car). The road ends at a parking lot where you can then either ride an elevator or walk up the steep trail to the summit. At the summit is a building complex that includes the weather field station, which is a cylindrical structure. The sign is by this structure.
The sign is rectangularly shaped. The largest part is a rendering of the landscape and the mountains to the southeast, which is the view in this direction. There are names of the mountain peaks with leader lines pointing to the geographic features they are related to. Below that is the title, "Adirondack High Peaks" and some description. To the right of this is another box that describes the peaks in relation to other peaks in the Appalachian Mountain Chain, including Mount March (one of the high peaks in view), Mt. Washington in New Hampshire, Mt. Katahdin in Maine (spelled wrong on the sign), and Mt. Mitchell in North Carolina.
There are other features shown on the rendering that mark out landmarks closer, such as Lake Placid (village and water body), Lake Saranac (village), and Mt. McKenzie.
