In 1939 the cornerstone for the present church was laid and duly blessed. On the southwest side of the church stands its large cemetery, its size understandable when one realizes that it has been in use since at least 1838 and quite possibly longer. The Clare township website has a photo index page of this cemetery in which are listed 607, which seems to equate to 607 headstones. Near the southwest corner of the church itself stands this veterans memorial, dedicated:
IN MEMORY OF
ALL VETERANS
AT
HOLY CROSS PARISH
LEST WE FORGET
This is a fairly small monument, consisting of a rectangular granite stele about three feet tall, atop a granite base.
