Now what’s that city on the stamp? Anyone who has ever listened to Bob & Ray’s hit parade would know that it’s “the best location in the nation, C-L-E-V-E-L-A-N-D!” The stamp was one of fifty different designs each offering greetings from one of the 50 states and issued as a single pane.
Clearly discernible on the stamp are several Cleveland landmarks. The Detroit-Superior Bridge was the largest steel and concrete bridge in the world when it was completed in 1918. The two skyscrapers are the Sohio Building (1985) and the iconic Terminal Tower, completed in 1930 and the tallest building in North America (outside of New York City) for over 30 years.
So, as the song (performed by Les Adair and the Vic Stuart Combo by the way) concludes, “if you have not been there, you’ve not been anywhere so come to Cleveland, yes Cleveland, Ohio.”
