"Although James McCoy gave this town his family name when he platted it in 1887, it was renamed in 1890 for Thomas Oakes, vice president of the Northern Pacific Railroad. McCoy Creek, McCoy Valley, and other local features still bear the town founder's name. Today's Oakesdale is a vibrant, welcoming community with stories to tell."
