A bronze medallion relief sculpture of the founder of Cornell University Ezra Cornell is located in the center of the wrought iron arch of the Eddy Street Gate.

The Eddy Street Gate features a 3' diameter, two-sided, bronze medallion which containing the relief profile bust of Ezra Cornell. The sculpture was created by William Henry Miller and installed with the gate in 1896. The gate was once the main entrance of Cornell University but now is located in a long forgotten corner of the University.
Identical relief sculptures of Ezra Cornell show the founder of the University in left profile. His profile is between the numbers 18 and 65, the year Cornell was founded (1865). Around the edge of the medallion is inscribed:
I WOULD FOUND AN INSTITUTION WHERE ANY PERSON CAN FIND INSTRUCTION IN ANY STUDY
and
EZRA CORNELL.
