Texas Historic Site Atlas

In 1921, the community built a parochial high school with rooms for the Sisters of Divine Providence on the second floor. The new school construction is indicative of the prosperity and growth of the community at this time. It may have also been an attempt to retain local control of high school education.

School enrollment dropped by 66 to 177 registered pupils in 1941. With high school students bussed to Lott, the slow decline continued in the following years until only 57 pupils enrolled in the Westphalia School by 1978-79.
