Der Kreuzberg ist ein 161 Meter hoher Berg im Bonner Stadtgebiet, angrenzend an den Venusberg. Der Berg ist mindestens seit dem 15. Jahrhundert als Wallfahtsstätte bekannt und Ziel zahlreicher Pilger gewesen. Ein Stationsweg mit Bildstöcken führt von Poppelsdorf aus den Berg hinauf.

1627 ließ Kurfürst und Erzbischof Ferdinand von Bayern auf dem Gipfel des Bergs die Kreuzbergkirche bauen, eine kleine, aber prunkvolle Kirche mit Deckengemälden, Bildern und Statuen. 1637 wurde ein Klostergebäude angebaut, in dem zunächst Bettelmönche des Servitenordens aus Innsbruck lebten, später Jesuiten und Franziskanermönche. 1746 wurde die Kirche auf Veranlassung von Kurfürst Clemens August um die "Heilige Stiege" erweitert, eine prunkvolle, 28 Stufen umfassende Treppe nach dem Vorbild der "Scala Sancta" am Laternenpalast in Rom.

Inzwischen ist das Kirchengebäude sowie die umliegenden Gebäude nicht mehr in kirchlichem Besitz und wird nicht mehr für religiöse Zeromonien wie z.B. Gottesdienste genutzt. Eigentümer ist der Verein Kreuzberg-Bonn e.V. Im ehemaligen Klostergebäude befindet sich ein Zentrum für internationale Bildung und Kulturaustausch, und die ehemalige Kirche wird heute hauptsächlich für Hochzeiten genutzt. The Kreuzberg is a 161 meter high mountain in the Bonn city area, adjacent to the Venusberg. The mountain has been known as a place of pilgrimage since at least the 15th century and has been the destination of numerous pilgrims. A way of the cross' stations with picture shrines leads from Poppelsdorf up the mountain.

In 1627 the Elector and Archbishop Ferdinand of Bavaria had the Kreuzbergkirche built on the summit of the mountain, a small but magnificent church with ceiling paintings, pictures and statues. In 1637 a monastery building was added, in which at first mendicants of the Servite Order from Innsbruck lived, later Jesuits and Franciscan monks. In 1746, at the behest of Elector Clemens August, the church was extended by the "Holy Stairs", a magnificent 28-staircase based on the "Scala Sancta" at the Lantern Palace in Rome.

Today, the church building as well as the surrounding buildings are no longer in ecclesiastical ownership and are no longer used for religious ceremonies such as Services. The owner is the association Kreuzberg-Bonn e.V. In the former convent building is a center for international education and cultural exchange, and the former church is now used mainly for weddings.
