This coloured, glazed ceramic sculpture is of St Joseph standing, holding a sawn section of tree, clearing the bark off it with an axe; while the juvenile Jesus Christ is standing at his hip, with a small bundle of wood in His arms, looking up at his carpenter father.

Joseph was the earthly father of Jesus, and the husband of the Virgin Mary. Matthew 1:1-17 gives the direct genealogy of Jesus Christ, from Abraham to David (14 generations), from David to Jeconiah (the Babylonian captivity, 14 generations), and from Jeconiah to Jacob begatting Joseph (the Worker; also 14 generations), who was "... the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ" Matthew 1:16 NKJV

On the octagonal brick base that this sculpture is displayed on, is a polished grey-speckled stone tablet (possibly crystalline granite), with the gold-infilled inscription of: "SURELY THIS IS THE CARPENTER'S SON" Matt: 13.55

The sculpture is between various buildings of the Newman Senior Technical College, formerly known as Australian Technical College - Port Macquarie VOCL Campus, and was opened in February 2007. The campus is on the road to the regional airport at Hibbard, outlying to Port Macquarie.
