Located along Atlantic Avenue also known as A1A, the Maritime Hammock Preserve is home to walking trails, a lake, a boardwalk and most interesting to me, Strangler Fig trees.
According to the park sign, "Maritime Hammock is the habitat found west of the beach dunes along the east coast of Florida. Plants and animals commonly found in the Maritime Hammock include oak, red bay, American beautyberry, wild coffee, myrsine, raccoon, gray squirrel, osprey, hawks and this habitat provides shelter, nesting and food for migratory song birds."
