At the foot of the rock complex "La Fortaleza Grande" you can find some caves, beaten by hand, which were used as accommodation and storage. Buildings were also discovered on the ridge, but they were probably used for ritual purposes.

The Fortaleza (Fortress) is one of the most important archaeological sites in Gran Canaria. It consists of three rocks: Fortaleza Grande (Great Fortress), Fortaleza Chica (Small Fortress) and Titana.

This place is associated with the surrender of the Canarian natives on 29 April 1483 to the Castilian troops. Then the leader Bentejuí and the Faycán (shaman) of Telde (Tazarte) committed suicide by falling down from the rocks screaming "Atis Tirma". However, today it is doubted that this incident happened in this place.

Thanks to the radiocarbon method, we know that La Fortaleza has been inhabited for about 800 years. Most likely, however, it is even older. The summit stands out from Fortaleza Grande. There are numerous rock engravings and walls in the form of ramparts, as well as stone structures reminiscent of cultural practices. Some authors also associate these with the determination of the seasons (equinox). Due to the richness and diversity of the archaeological manifestations found at this site (habitats, tombs and cult sites, rock paintings), it has been declared a protected cultural monument.
