The sculpture is mounted upon a two-tiered base of polished granite" ~ Smithsonian American Art Museum
"Did you know that the statue of Father Pierre Gibault, located in front of the Old Cathedral, is holding a treaty in his hands? The sculptor of the statue, Albin Polasek, wanted viewers of the statue to remember that it was through the efforts of Father Gibault, and Dr. Jean Laffont, that the townspeople of Vincennes were convinced to support the Americans after the fall of Kaskaskia and Cahokia in July 1778." ~ National Park Service
