Qui dit Trois-Pistoles dit Rioux et qui dit Rioux dit Trois-Pistoles. En effet on ne peut dissocier ces deux appellations. La seigneurie des Trois-Pistoles, la seigneurie Nicolas Rioux,le village de Trois-Pistoles, la municipalité de Notre-Dame-des-Neiges et Rivière-Trois-Pistoles sont tous des noms de lieux étroitement liés à la famille Rioux et à son ancêtre Jean Riou, époux de Catherine Leblond, fille de nos ancêtres Nicolas Leblond et Marguerite Leclerc. Tous les Rioux d’Amérique descendent de ce couple fondateur. Les Riou et Rioux se sont d’abord multipliés dans la région du Bas-du-Fleuve, principalement dans la région des Basques, pour ensuite envahir toutes les régions du Québec, du Canada et des États-Unis. Nous retrouvons des Rioux dans les dix provinces canadiennes et dans presque tous les états américains.

Jean Roc’hiou, notre Jean Riou, né et baptisé le 20 mars 1652 à Notre-Dame de Ploujean (France). Son parrain est Jean Prigent et la marraine Jeanne Bezmont. Il épouse, le 10 janvier 1678 à Sainte-Famille I.O., Catherine Leblond, fille de Nicolas Leblond et de Marguerite Leclerc.Ils auront huit enfants.

"Who says Trois-Pistoles dit Rioux and who says Rioux dit Trois-Pistoles. Indeed we can not separate these two names. The seigneury of Trois-Pistoles, the seigneury Nicolas Rioux, the village of Trois-Pistoles, the municipality of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges and Rivière-Trois-Pistoles are all names of places closely related to the Rioux family and its ancestor Jean Riou, husband of Catherine Leblond, daughter of our ancestors Nicolas Leblond and Marguerite Leclerc. All the Rioux of America descend from this founding couple.
