The work "Richtung Ahnung" is part of the project "KunstBetriebe2" at Richter Baustoffhandel GmbH & Co. KGaA. In the project, 12 northern German and Danish sculptors developed works of art with company-specific materials that were new to them during a working stay in a company. Tim Maertens cast nearly 400 concrete modules for the work of art and connected them to form geometric bodies. The artist developed the special composition of the concrete and its colour over a long period of time in intensive exchange with the employees of the building materials trade.

Despite the profane material, the work is based on poetic thoughts about the emergence and change of the universe. The geometric constructions of triangles and pentagons evoke associations of molecular chains and atomic lattices, the smallest components of our material world. Maertens is concerned with making visible a process of creation, of becoming and changing form: a body rises from the 2nd to the 3rd dimension and the individual concrete elements seem to continue moving. Instead of fitting accurately into the geometric forms, there are irregularities in the arrangement of the concrete slabs. The seemingly fixed becomes a snapshot of eternal change. Answers to the questions about where this endless flow comes from and where it goes appear through the millennia as a constant back and forth between "direction" (dogma / idea / line) and "presentiment" (understanding / unity / circle).
