To put an end to border conflicts in the Peel, a new border was established in 1716 by the Republic of the United Netherlands and the King of Prussia. The border was marked by stone border posts. These have been lost over the centuries, but they have now been restored and made visible again in the landscape through cooperation with various municipalities and other parties. The Paal between Broemeer and Soemeer is the original post from 1716, on which the other border posts are based. At every border post there is an information board with the history and background of that location.
