Already in the 17th century the spring at Siebleber Hölzchen was mentioned and in 1778 known by the actor August Wilhelm Iffland. He met here with his colleagues Heinrich Beck and Johann David Beil during the three's theatre engagement at the Hoftheater Gotha.
The natural spring was found in 1899, and one year later it was given the name Iffland-Quelle at the request of the Gotha Historical Society.
