The main cemetery Gotha (formerly also cemetery V) is the largest of the six remaining Gothaer cemeteries. It is located on the Langensalzaer road in the northeast of the Thuringian city. The crematorium of 1878 is the oldest in Germany.
The old cemeteries I to IV in the northwest of the city were closed in 1874 (cemetery I), 1883 (cemetery II) and 1892 (cemeteries III and IV).

1878 in the north, the main cemetery was created as cemetery V.
