Garden located in the Dumfries rest area off Interstate 95 southbound past mile marker 155.
Established in 2017 by the Chesapeake Bay Restoration Fund, the garden is a collaboration of the Virginia Department of transportation and the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay. It is designed to show travelers how a rain garden can and will filter out many pollutants before they reach Chesapeake Bay.
The accompanying interpretive marker at the site explains storm water runoff, how the garden works to filter the storm water and how that benefits local waterways. The garden features native shrubs, grasses and perennials.
