Edgware Road Station - Chapel Street and Cabbell Street, London, UK - The Underground on Waymarking.com

The Edgware Road Station of the District, Cirlce, Hammersmith and City Lines is located at the junction of Chapel Street and Cabbell Street in Paddington.

There are two adjacent underground stations both called 'Egdware Road' on the London Underground. The stations are (roughly 150 m apart) on opposite side of Marylebone Rd), but are located on different lines.

The Station on Chapel Street and Cabbell Street is the older of the two and was built by the Metropolitan Railway on their pioneering line from Paddington to Baker Street & Farringdon in 1863 and is a sub-surface station (now used by the District, Hammersmith & City and Circle lines), whilst the newer one is a deep level tube station on the former Baker Street & Waterloo Railway (the modern day Bakerloo Line) that opened in 1907.

Both the Metroploitan Railway and the Baker Street & Waterloo Railway chose 'Edgware Road' as the name for their stations because of its significance as a major North West London thoroughfare and the names remained unchanged even after London Underground took over operation of the whole network in 1933.
