Roadside Architecture"Although at first glance, this former station in Tyler bears some resemblance to the Gulf canopy design, I believe those features were added during a 2017 renovation.
In 2008, the canopy support were simple poles and there were no Art Deco style canopy supports. The building itself was not more than a box.
I believe the inspiration was the Gulf design but the vertical incisions on the canopy supports are too wide. The diamond shapes were used on the tops of Gulf supports not between them. Those diamonds and the vertical features were gold and the stations were brown brick. I don't believe Gulf had double canopies until much later (during the icebox era)."
