The twinnings are multiple, from the old plan signed in 1960 with Zaragoza (Spain) to the most recent: Xian (China) is associated with Pau since 1986. The cultural and tourism cooperation is prolonged by the creation of a Confucius Institute in Pau (link on this partnership).
Pau is twinned with seven other cities: Göttingen (Germany), Mobile (USA), Pistoia (Italy), Kofu (Japan), Setubal (Portugal), Swansea (Wales), Daloa (Ivory Coast) with which have been continuing regularly since 1982 exchanges between teachers, high schools in middle school.
