The castle Kirburg is near the town Kirn. It was first mention in 1128 in a document. The Kirburg was the home of the family of the Wildgrafen. In was used as a fort until the middle of the 18th century when it was destroyed by French troops. After that date is was used as stone mine. In the 80ties of the last century the castle came into the ownership of the town Kirn. One of its buildiung has been renewed and today you find there a restaurant and a Whisky-museum. The other parts of the castle remains as ruins and are open to visit for free.
