An historical marker identifies the site of the home of John Chandler Williams where a festive peace party was held to celebrate the end of the American Revolutionary War. It is located on the corner of East and South Streets in Pittsfield, MA.

A boulder with a bronze plaque marks the site of the house where an elaborate party was held celebrating the Peace of Paris marking the end of the American revolutionary War.

The plaque is inscribed:

PEACE PARTY HOUSE
BUILT BY COL. JAMES EASTON IN 1776
ON THE SITE IN FRONT OF THE COURT HOUSE
HOME OF JOHN CHANDLER WILLIAMS IN 1782
AND MOVED TO ITS PRESENT LOCATION IN 1869
HERE IN NOVEMBER, 1783 A BRILLIANT PARTY
AND A NOTABLE FEAST WERE GIVEN TO THE
CITIZENS OF PITTSFIELD, IN CELEBRATION
OF THE PEACE OF PARIS BETWEEN ENGLAND
AND THE COLONIES WHICH WAS SIGNED ON
SEPTEMBER 3RD 1783

The peace party must have been an impressive event. It was said to include and ox roast and free flowing wines and liquors. The local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is named after this event.
