The McClellan Gate, also known as the McClellan Memorial, was constructed in 1871 in honour of MGen George McClellan, one-time Commander of the famed Army of the Potomac.

The gate originally stood on Arlington Ridge Road, at one of the entrances to the cemetery. However, expansion of the cemetery eventually saw its use as a main entrance removed.
It is the sole survivor of the gates built in the 1870's to serve the Cemetery. The iron gates were removed sometime after the cemetery was expanded.

The memorial features quotes from Theodore O'Hara's poem, Bivouac of the Dead.

On the north side:

On Fame's Eternal Camping Ground Their Silent Tents Are Spread
And Glory Guards With Solemn Round the Bivouac Of The Dead.

On the south side:

Rest On Embalmed And Sainted Dead Dear As The Blood Ye Gave
No Impious Footsteps Here Shall Tread The Herbage of Your Grave

Lettering is all in gilt.

McClellan's name is emblazoned over the archway.

The name "MEIGS" is emblazoned on a column. This is regard to Brigadier General Montgomery C. Meigs, the Quartermaster General who oversaw the construction of the memorial.

The Memorial is located on the aptly-named McClellan Road in the Cemetery.
