The village of Strathtay lies on the banks of the River Tay in Perthshire and is a Victorian conservation village. The golf course in the village was laid out in 1909 by Captain Steuart of Ballechin with nine holes. For almost a hundred years the layout was unchanged with the only significant addition being a new set of tees to make up eighteen holes from two different sets of tees. This took place in 2008 in time for the club's centenary.

The course starts in the village and then heads up to the higher ground to the north. There are five par threes and four par fours for a par of 31 on the front nine. From the second nine the course is slightly longer, with the eleventh hole playing to a par four, making a par of 32 and an overall par of 63 at just under 4,000 yards long.

Among the more spectacular holes are the 3rd, from a high tee down to the green 160 yards away. On the second nine as the 12th, the tee shot is from the lower ground over a tall copse of trees. The same hilltop for the 3rd tee is also used for the tee shot on the 13th hole. The 5th/14th hole is played just over 220 yards up an extremely steep hill to a hidden green over a marker post. In both cases the hole plays as a par four. The benefit of the steep climb to this green means that the tee shots to the 6th/15th hole are from tees on the highest point of the course on what is the longest hole. To avoid the steepest holes a new six hole layout has just been constructed.

A small hut serves as the clubhouse and an honesty box outside caters for the green fees (£15 for 18 holes). No booking is required.
