Kirkcaldy is a large town on the coast of the Firth of Forth in Fife, Scotland. A golf course was first mooted in 1904 on land to the west of the town at Balwearie. Old Tom Morris was brought in to build the course and nine holes were up and running in November 1904. The course was extended to eighteen holes in May 1906.

A major change took place in 1964 when a field was purchased, which now houses holes 11, 12, 14 and 15. This replaced a section of the course which was notoriously boggy. The final change came around 1976 when land was acquired close to the clubhouse. This led to a new tee for the opening hole, turning it into a dog-leg, and also to a completely new 18th hole, a par 3.

The first six holes of the course head in a westerly direction with a steep hill to climb at the opening hole. The course is a par 71 with long holes at the 5th, 12th and the 17th which heads back down the same hill as the first, with the green set beyond a burn. Short holes come at the 2nd, 7th, 13th, and 18th holes.

The course lies to the west of the town centre, close to the large Beveridge Park.
