The town of Peterculter and the district of Culter (pronounced cooter) lie on the extreme western edge of the city of Aberdeen in north-eastern Scotland. The memorial to the men of the district who fell in World War I is situated on top of a hillock on the western edge of the town on the southern side of the main A93 road that runs through the town.

Unveiled and dedicated on October 3rd 1920, it takes the form of a tall rustic tower, tapering to a crenellated top. Four grey granite tablets adorn each of the four faces of the tower, the tablet on the northern face carries the inscription:

'THIS MONUMENT IS ERECTED IN PROUD AND GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN FROM THIS DISTRICT WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918'

The tablet on the eastern face contains 32 names and rank, and the tablet on the western face contains 36 names and rank. The tablet on the southern face was unveiled in 1949, and contains 29 names and rank of those who fell in World War II.

The memorial is signposted from the A93 North Deeside Road and is reached from a pathway slanting up the eastern side of the hill.
