The white marble 'bust' is atop the headstone for Reginald Gordon Garlick (aka Phil), who was a very successful speedway racer until his fatal accident at the Maroubra Raceway, on 8th January, 1927. The sculpture depicts Phil seated in the cockpit of his sprint car, with his hands holding onto the steering wheel.
