"Spirit of the Doughboy" and its companion piece "Spirit of the American Navy" flank the sidewalk leading to the west entrance of the courthouse. This sculpture was originally copyrighted in 1920, following World War I. The Smithsonian database entry describes the sculpture as "Figure of a World War I infantryman advancing through the stumps and barbed wire of No Man's Land. He holds a grenade in his upraised proper right hand and a rifle in his proper left hand."

This sculpture was first dedicated in Hobart on May 30, 1929. It first stood at the site of the Memorial Bridge over the North Fork of the Red River on State Highway 9 – the county line between Hobart and Granite, Oklahoma. The sculpture was removed from the bridge in 1969, and placed in storage. After restoration by James A. Pitt, the sculpture was rededicated on November 11, 1978 at its present location.

The bronze sculpture is mounted on a three foot high granite base. An inscription on the base reads: "Dedicated to Veterans of All Wars".
