Located a mere 4km from the Brisbane CBD, Albion Park Racecourse is a trotting and greyhound racing venue which offers race meets every day of the week. Built around the same time as the Breakfast Creek Hotel opening in 1890, Albion Park was a gallop racing venue until 1981. It is now controlled by the Brisbane Greyhound Racing Club with joint tenants the Queensland Harness Racing Board and Greyhound Racing Authority residing at the racecourse as well.
The anticlockwise track has a loam surface and has a circumference of 1019m. The short 197m straight proves a challenge for many horses. Allowing a maximum of 14 starters in a standing start race, the track holds harness races on Saturday nights and Tuesdays. Pacing and Trotting equally attract a large number of competitors and spectators for the 1660m and 2138m races.
Also hosting a number of greyhound races during the week, Albion Park is renowned for its spectacular dog races. The meetings are determined by the race length; 395m races are held on Monday nights, 520m races on Tuesday nights, 600m races on Wednesday afternoons and 710m races on Thursday nights.
