[EN] "The ordeal located rue de la Croix in Chalandray, opposite the church, has been abandoned since the fall of the cross in 1980. The monument which dates from 1940 replaced another cross at the same location. Completed in 1944, it was funded by the parish.
Since 1980, several restoration projects had been mentioned, but it was Bernard Martin, who, as a child, lived in a house from where he saw the ordeal, who imagines the possibility of restoration with his financial participation.
It was not until March 2010 that the project became clear after contact with the owner of the Calvary land and her agreement, the completion of administrative procedures by the bishopric, the study of works, the agreement of the pastoral manager, Father Bernard Chataignier de Vouillé, and technical support from Mr. Salignat, deacon in Châtellerault and former architect.
Volunteers from Chalandray then got down to the task with materials taken in charge by the parish. The site lasted three weeks this August and it was the carpenter of the town, Mr. Martin who offered to make the cross in glued laminated oak. This cross which has just been put in place. She will be blessed at the end of the parish mass on Sunday September 4. "
