Les ossuaires ajourés comme celui de Kergrist-Moëlou (classé MH en 1921) à arcades trilobées ou encore de Lanrivain, autre commune du Centre Ouest Bretagne toute proche, avaient pour but d'exposer aux yeux de tous les ossements des défunts exhumés pour laisser la place aux nouvelles générations.

Lorsque l'édifice se trouvait plein, tous les quarts de siècle environ, avaient lieu les "secondes funérailles" au cours desquelles les restes étaient enfouis dans une fosse commune." Source (visit link)
